Chemare // Calling

Video

The video work Chemare // Calling, created by Alexandra Dumitrescu and Ana-Cristina Irian, brings together fragments of thoughts and confessions from participants who responded to 4 open calls in countries such as Poland, the Republic of Moldova, Italy, and Romania. In front of the camera, each respondent seeks to capture the intimate, personal, yet universal meaning of the word “calling.” Alexandra Dumitrescu’s minimalist and poetic montage reveals the delicacy of diversity: the different ways in which people relate to the same word become an affective map, a radiography of humanity in constant motion between the inner and the outer self.
From this video work unfolds a series of portraits and extracted replies, arranged like collective haikus. They acquire the strength of a shared poetry, in which individual voices are woven together into a common fabric. Together, the respondents touch upon essential and often painful themes: migration, uprooting, the loss of the familiar, but also the joy of rediscovery, adaptation, and the finding of new meaning within the unknown.
